| THEIR BACKSTORY: At the start of the series, Pam is engaged to Roy and Jim has a secret crush on her. Jim and Pam obviously have a lot of chemistry, but she remains loyal to Roy despite their rocky relationship. Season One is full of cute Jim and Pam moments as they mess with Dwight and try to make the most of office life.
In Season Two's "The Dundies", Pam drunkingly kisses Jim while she's on the outs with Roy. In "The Client" they share a romantic "date" on top of the roof, which Pam is quick to tell Jim was not a date. Jim confesses his crush in "Booze Cruise" and Michael lets the whole office know in "The Secret." For the rest of the season, Jim and Pam are awkward around one another and slowly become friends again. That is until Jim confesses his love in "Casino Night" and then accepts a transfer to Stamford.
Season Three starts out with Jim in Stamford and getting close to Karen, who becomes his new girlfriend. Pam is still engaged, but obviously misses Jim. When the two branches merge, Karen and Pam actually become friends until Phyllis makes it awkward by revealing Jim and Pam's past to Karen. Pam calls off the wedding and Jim stays with Karen until Pam's confession on the beach in "Beach Games." In the Season 3 finale, Jim, Karen and Michael apply for a job at corporate. Jim turns down the job and goes back to Scranton to ask Pam out on a date.
In the Season Four opener, Jim and Pam have been hiding their relationship from everyone, including the camera crew. They get discovered and everyone is happy for them, except Dwight who thinks they could both do better. During Season Four, they spend their first weekend away at Dwight's beet farm turned bed and breakfast ("Money") and Jim prepares to propose at the end of Season 4 ("Goodbye Toby") but gets upstaged by Andy proposing to Angela.
Pam goes to an art program in New York in Season Five, which is tough for both of them. They meet at a gas station halfway between New York and Scranton and Jim pops the question ("Weight Loss.") In the Season Five finale, Jim and Pam discover they are expecting a baby. ("Company Picnic").
In the season six episode "Niagra" Jim and Pam get married. They end up sneaking off to have a private ceremony on the Maid of the Mist boat but keep it a secret. During their processional the whole office ends up dancing down the aisle. Pam works as a salesperson and Jim lobbies for a promotion. He becomes co-manager with Michael.

Pam: I can't.
[a small tear runs down Jim's face]
Pam: I'm really sorry... if you misinterpreted things. It's probably my fault.
Jim: [Trying to recover] Not your fault. I'm sorry I misinterpreted our friendship.
- Pam:The thing about Jim is... when he's excited about something- like the Office Olympics- he gets really into it and he does a really great job. But the problem with Jim is that he works here so... that hardly ever happens. (Season One)
